After picking up a calf injury, England is awaiting the outcome of a scan to see if Jason Roy will be ready for the remainder of their T20 World Cup matches.

During England's 10-run loss against South Africa in Sharjah on Saturday, the batsman was injured while trying to finish a run. As Roy was carried off the ground and later seen on crutches, he was obviously in pain.

On Wednesday, England will face New Zealand in the first semi-final in Abu Dhabi. If they win, they will play in the final in Dubai on Sunday against either Pakistan or Australia, who will participate in the second semi-final on Thursday.

If Roy is pulled out, James Vince, who has 123 runs in this World Cup with a best of 61 against Bangladesh, might step up from his position as travelling back up to take his spot in the team.

Sam Billings has been England's spare hitter and might replace Roy in the XI, although he is mostly a middle-order batsman, which would demand a further rearrangement.

Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, and Moeen Ali are all contenders to replace the in-form Jos Buttler at the top of the order.

Eoin Morgan – England’s captain, commented that Roy is extremely important for the team and that he's a man who represents everything England stands for in the locker room and the way they play. Morgan added that they are all hoping he is able to make it in some way or that there's a way to get him through at least one game. He explained, although the injury does shake the team’s momentum, however, at the end of the day, they need to do what’s best for Roy and the team.

Mark Wood – the England fast bowler expressed his disappointment and said Joy is an important person in the team, they’ve great potential and some will need to step up. He added that the team has lots of options on hand. He explained that Bairstow is a natural opener in 50-over contests and a possible replacement could be Vince or Livingstone too.

Don’t miss the first semi-final match, England play against New Zealand this Wednesday.
