6 players were released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the next month’s mini auction for the IPL 2021.
The players released by the franchise are Monu Kumar Singh, M. Vijay, Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla and Shane Watson, who announced his retirement after the 2020 edition of the IPL.
Despite some controversy surrounding the sudden departure of Suresh Raina from the UAE before the start of the last year's tournament, which did not go well with the side management, the former Indian batsman was retained in the squad.
Last year, the side missed his services and will hope for stability once he gets back.
In the 2020 edition, the three-time champion suffered its worst season, finishing joint last in the tournament in UAE.
K.S. Viswanathan, CSK CEO commented that they need to strengthen the team’s batting lineup and look at infusing some young blood, and another slot that they are going to look at is an off-spinner.
