As Jhye Richardson picked up his first wicket of the day, Maddinson then left for 18.
After 14 overs, the Melbourne Stars were 114-5, needing 69 runs from the last six.
Nic Larkin fought an alone war, but he could not find enough support from the other end. Though trying a ramp shot, the batsman was finally dismissed in the 18th over.

The Scorchers, however, still had enough runs on the bank and emerged triumphant with 11 runs.
