Due to a possible breach in the bio bubble, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for an indefinite period after only hosting 29 matches. The BCCI now faces a significant challenge in determining an appropriate window for the remainder of IPL 2021. The teams, including India, have a packed international calendar, making it impossible for the Indian board to make room for the IPL 2021.

It is anticipated that the BCCI will finalise the widow for the remaining 31 IPL 2021 matches at its Special General Meeting on May 29. If reports are to be believed, the Indian board will host the tournament following India's England tour in September and October. Team India will fly to England in the first week of June for the final of the inaugural World Test Championship against New Zealand, followed by a five-match Test series against England.

The Test series will end on September 14, and India will have no more matches until the ICC T20 World Cup, held in India in October and November. As a result, the BCCI hopes to take advantage of the September-October window and keep the tournament in the UAE from September 15 to October 15.

In the same vein, the BCCI could approach the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and recommend that the delay between the second and third Tests be reduced from nine to four days. By shortening the time between Test matches, the BCCI will have more time to fly Indian and English players from the UK to the UAE for the IPL. If the ECB declines to finish the Test series between India and England sooner, the Indian board has a contingency plan.
