The Board of Control for Cricket in India will bid to host three ICC events in the next cycle, which will begin in 2024 and last for eight years. The conclusion was reached at the board's recently conducted Emergent Apex Council Meeting. The Champions Trophy, which was last held in 2017, when Pakistan defeated India in the final, was recently resurrected by the International Cricket Council.

In addition, beginning in 2024, the ICC will ensure that at least one global event will be held every year. After successfully co-hosting the 50-over World Cup and hosting the 2016 T20 World Cup alone, the BCCI appears to be highly confident in hosting the World Cups. They intend to bid for the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2028 T20 World Cup, and the 2031 ODI World Cup.

The 2017 T20 World Cup will be held in India in October and November of this year. However, due to the COVID-19 threat, it is unclear whether the event would be held in India. Furthermore, the country is set to host the 2023 ODI World Cup, and a BCCI official believes that hosting the Champions Trophy a couple of years later will be ideal.

In the next cycle of global tournaments, the ICC has decided to expand the number of teams. While 14 teams will compete in the 50-over World Cup, the major event in the shortest format will have 20 teams.
