India will play England in a Test series beginning August 4 after a heartbreaking eight-wicket loss in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand. However, India has been given a significant setback ahead of the high-octane series, as authorities from the BCCI are currently examining COVID-19 in the United Kingdom due to a recent surge in instances.

This is bad news because the Indian players and broadcast crews have been able to move about freely. However, if the situation does not recover, the BCCI may soon decide to impose a few limits. The ultimate decision has still to be made, and if the BCCI believes that more substantial punishment is not required, it will give the players some breathing room.

The BCCI, interestingly, made preparations for all of its players by supplying the first dose of vaccine. The second dose will be administered in England before the five-match Test series. In addition, because the UK government had relaxed the lockdown restrictions, the BCCI allowed their players to travel with families.

The Indian players will have enough time to prepare for the five-match series against England once the WTC Final concludes on June 23. Ravi Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane are among the players who have travelled with their families. However, before the cricketing action takes centre stage, these players and the rest of the group hoped to go on a brief retreat.

Meanwhile, the number of cases in the UK is constantly increasing, reaching 10,000 in just one week. However, with the government of England and the BCCI keeping a close eye on the situation, implementing a few limitations may be made soon.
